I never had an idea of this sort. When I heard digital citizenship ... I was like ... WHAT ??? What is that ? Then I thought may be just to be techno-savvy means "Digital Citizenship" ! But but but ... when Kelly Mendoza started throwing light on the concept ... it was very much precious knowledge and information. It is all about spreading awareness among teachers, students and parents about the pros and cons of technology, media, internet.
Some of the statistical figures were shocking. 41% of kids aged 8-17 leave their Facebook private settings on "default" ! Kids aged 8-18 spend 7.5 hours per day with media ! It was convincingly explained why we need digital citizenship. Plagiarism and Academic Honesty are the major concerns with the Diploma students.
I am an IBDP Mathematics teacher and examiner as well and I know how tough it becomes to help students help themselves regarding plagiarism and research work.
I liked the resources she shared with us and specially the Digital Literacy & Citizenship Curriculum. I am very much planning to implement it at my school.
I have already signed up with Common Sense Media. It is an ocean of resources. When I shared it with the teachers at my school ... they said HUURRRAAAAY ! This is not only helpful to teachers and students but also for parents.
Digital passport is another great website and resource for educators and students.
The education programs, professional developments and the certification courses are add-ons.
