Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

Producing theater is more than just learning lines and designing sets.  It is inquiry-based learning and the skills and capacities we want in our students – perseverance, collaboration, flexible thinking, deep listening – are the same skills  artists employ to create great theater.

In this interactive session, learn how theater artistic praxis (the what, how, and why of what artists do) can be used in the classroom to differentiate instruction and activate student engagement.  We will examine the habits of mind actors, directors and designers employ to produce theatrical works, and how deploying these in classrooms can lead to collaborative authentic learning.  Participants will create implementation strategies for their own classrooms.  They will also be introduced to rehearsal techniques that can be used to glean knowledge about students, facilitate inquiry and discussion, and develop engaging standards-based learning projects that tap into student prior knowledge.
